Google Maps and BIKE THERE

Before reading my banter please just click on this banner and sign the petition.

Yes, I know that with the Google Map API anyone with more knowledge than me or the average banana slug could put something like the following together:

http://bycycle.org/ is an excellent working example. Be sure to zoom into Portland and have a look at the information available - pull up the map legend as well.

These other sites might help you understand some of the uses that Google's mapping API could be used for on a personal site... there are many many more than what I have here:

Yet...

What the petition is striving for is a "...feature [that] would take into account actual bicycle lanes from the locality being mapped, and it would automatically plan a route for a bicyclist, possibly even providing the cyclist options for either the most direct route, or the most bicycle-friendly (safest) route."

Unlike the above sights or examples given of Google's Mapping API mashing, this tool [or toy?] would be located right up there with options like:
Directions
Satellite
Terrain
Avoid Highways
Public Transit
Find businesses

We are just asking for a tab "Bike There" with all the wonders of Google Maps!

What do you think? Comments? Click here and sign the petition!
