A perfect month. March. Sunshine & Tailwinds. Spring was here. At some point things changed this week and I was amazed how a bit of winter could put a blanket on a town....I too wanted nothing more than a cup of coffee and to stay at home. The campus and even the city looked deserted like everyone decided to take a sick day.
For me I was running late, again. Forcing myself on to the bike and up to work, I went out into the muck. Stupidly I skidded, churned the cranks, skidded and skidded throughout the town, into campus and right up to the front door at work. Although the streets felt wet, a brand new gatorskin tire was compromised in the name of fun. No I'm not going to embarrass myself by posting a skid on youtube but I will continue to make my rides enjoyable. When I'm asked about "why do you like your fixed gear?", I think of days like this. Miserable days to be out except on a bike. I'm sure skiers, snowshoers , and many others could say the same thing but then how many of them get to work that way....
Other...Before I head off for the summer, I had hoped to finish the fixing of the Miyata. The Miyata "fix" was really done last week in about 30min... I'm still holding off on pictures because we haven't painted it, taken off the cable-bosses or the down tube shifting-bosses. We have both ridden it around a bit but I'm waiting on a half-link to make the chain length just right before any major rides. Even after a few short trips, Lauren thinks it is easier to ride up hill on the fixie . Another sole changed forever....
